TRAFFIC FINES
The State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) is responsible for the enforcement of various fines including traffic fines.
If you are unable to pay your fine within the time period given, you may be able to apply through SPER for a Repayment Plan or a Fine Option Order which converts your fine to a Community Service Order.
SPER can suspend your driver’s licence for any kind of unpaid fine.
If you fail to pay your traffic fines within the time required SPER will:
- Send you a SPER Enforcement Order (a $44.00 SPER registration fee is added to your fine) giving you a further twenty-eight days to pay
- You can apply to pay the fine by instalments or to work off the fine through community service under a Fine Option Order within that period.
- If you do not pay within the 28 days, an enforcement action will commence and further $75.00 will be added to your fine and you will be sent a Notice of Intention to Suspend a Drivers Licence
- You will then have a further 14 days to pay your fine, arrange an instalment plan or a fine option order application.
- If you do not pay the fine within the 14 day period, your driver’s licence will be suspended.
- If you are caught driving your vehicle whilst under a SPER suspension, you are guilty of an offence and will be disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for 6 months. A further penalty of $3,000.00 and/or 1 year imprisonment may apply.
- If your licence has been suspended you should contact the SPER Call centre immediately to pay the fine in full or make arrangements to pay in weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments.
